Chlorine Dioxide has been around for a long time; it is used extensively in water treatment around the world however conventional ClO2 requires on site generation due to its short life span and difficulties with transportation. Recent developments however have enabled the manufacture of a stabilised formulation which unleashes the powerful oxidising potential of Chlorine Dioxide, without the difficulties of conventional manufacture and transportation. Furthermore, this stabilised product can last in excess of 2 years without deterioration in the activity of the solution.
Although sCLO2 comprises chlorine similar to hydrochloric acid, it not a poison; and its chemical properties are quite dissimilar from chlorine and it acts in a different, far more selective way. Chlorine Dioxide is non-carcinogenic, non-staining, hypoallergenic and relatively non-irritating unlike Chlorine and Hypochlorite, whose by-products can be harmful to the environment and those who come into contact with it.
Stabilised Chlorine Dioxide is…
- an oxidising agent
- a biocide, virucide, fungicide and algaecide - not a metabolic poison
- contains chlorine but acts in a completely different manner to chlorine gas or hydrochloric acid and produces no undesirable by-products
- used at standard application rates it is safe for humans and animals even in confined areas
- is biodegradable, environmentally safe for use
- is safe to handle, offers no risk to users
- does not taint surfaces with colour, taste or smell
- a colourless and essentially odourless liquid (leaving a fresh smell, not dissimilar from that after a lightening storm)
